Alex, age 16 - HOW TO STAY FIT DURING QUARANTINE




Nowadays, when everybody is staying locked at home, it might be a bit more difficult to stay fit. The gyms are closed and you can’t even go outside for some jogging. Nevertheless, there are still ways not to gain weight. First and foremost, you have to think about your diet. I know there are so many delicious foods you can snack on throughout the day, however they might be very fatty and high in carbohydrates. Even healthy and nutritious things such as eggs or shellfish are cholesterol-rich and can produce plaques which clog your blood vessels. It’s really dangerous because it can lead to a heart attack or a stroke. To prevent that, it’s the best to eat food which contains a lot of fibre as it lower down the cholesterol level. As for that you should consider eating more fruit, vegetables, lentils, oatmeal and wholemeal bread. However, it’s not enough just to eat healthy. You need to exercise as well and the best way to burn calories and speed up your metabolism is doing cardiovascular exercises. There are plenty of them on YouTube so you have a wide range to choose from. Running or jogging is one of the best forms of cardio. Unfortunately, you can’t go to gym to do it but there is a solution! Try walking more in your house, up and down the stairs, from one room to another but if it’s not enough you can always go for a walk with your dog and just walk briskly. Your dog will love it as well as your body! Unless you don’t have a pet.... As you can see there are plenty of ways to stay fit even during quarantine. You just have to be a little bit creative and indented on leading a healthy lifestyle.
